Let’s Have Soup!!

Let’s Have Soup!!

My Soup is here!! MY SOUP IS HERE!! I was so excited when I saw the Muscle bring in the mail today-a package from my bead Soup swap partner, Gretchen, of ArtFoodLodging!! Since I had visited her blog and her shop, I was really eager to see what kind of Soup Gretchen would send! We have many similar tastes, as you can see in this awesome steampunk necklace-one of my favorites! It totally reminds me of the wedding on the beach in Surfside, TX last year, when Jake found that scary doll…………. LOVE!!!

And this rockabilly bat necklace! Hello?? Does it not have my name written all over it?!

I was going to try and be good and wait until I got dinner finished, and the kitties cared for, but the more I thought about it, the less I could resist it and I decided to take advantage of the fact that they were upstairs in my Craft Room still painting. I carefully slit the box edges, lifted the lid, and slowly unwrapped the layers of tissue paper. As I beheld each little pouch, I was so overcome with the generosity and thoughtfulness of Gretchen, that my eyes teared up. Such incredible little treasures, such amazingly beautiful beads, bits, buttons, and laces!! I love anything vintage!! I love the Gothic feel to the entire Soup!

Make sure you click on the pictures, to get a bigger, better close up view!

As you can see, I almost forgot to take an initial picture, before I unwrapped everything! I was so excited! Like a little kid on the Christmas! Then I felt the items deserved a great presentation:

The colors, the actual pieces themselves, all just so inspiring! I have SO MANY IDEAS!!!!!!!! I will treasure anything and everything I make from this Soup for the rest of my life. Here are some close-ups:

I absolutely LOVE these! I am 3/4 Polish, 1/4 German and LOVE anything to do with either heritage! Treasure!

Sweet little German dolls!!

Does this not just scream “American Gothic”?? I am so in love with these laces and trims!

Gorgeous feathers! I wonder what type of fowl they’re from? Pheasant, maybe?

LOVE that these are on this old card!! Vintage ribbons.. I absolutely love them! The colors are great! And “Sweet Pea” at the top? Love it, because that’s what I call my little Valerie..

These rings are just too awesome for words. I love the re-purposing aspect of it, and they are just a truly neat thing to have! I already have ideas for these as well!!

And last, but most certainly not least, this beautiful silver clasp!! And extra piece! I love it. I cannot wait to start doodling out ideas, and am VERY thankful Gretchen and I are in the last group. There is just so much I want to do to honor every piece she has generously sent me!

Free Beads, JUST For Blogging?? Sign Me UP, Please!!
So I came across this post by following a post in the Bead Soup Cafe on Facebook, and thought it sounded like great fun!! It’s simple: If I win beads, I blog about it. As I create something with the beads, I blog about it. And when I have a finished product, I blog about it!? I can do that! I love that I am slowly but surely getting more and more involved in what sometimes seems to be a secret society, where one must learn a secret handshake, a code word, and have l33t jewelry making skillz just to be considered an applicant. I love connecting with more and more people who share this insane compulsion delightful love of taking raw materials and creating something beautiful and seductive to the senses, something that takes on a life of its own as it is created, and in turn becomes a living, breathing creature to behold and admired by all. Ok, maybe that’s taking things a little too far, but I do so get caught up in the creating that I do forget to stop and eat, take a sip of water, stretch and BREATHE. If it weren’t for the kitties, I would probably fall asleep sitting on my ball at my desk, roll slowly forward and wake up with beads stuck to my face. I get in a zone once I finally find out what the materials are supposed to become, filled with kinetic energy that threatens imminent implosion if my hands don’t work fast enough! Anyhoo, I digress. Free beads. Yes, that’s where I was. So, head on over to Fusion Muse and check it out! =^..^=

So, What’s New?

So, What’s New?

Well, after Ms. Marie received her green and brown freeform freshwater pearl earrings, she commissioned me to make her a matching necklace! I had already been thinking about how I could use up the remaining pearls I had after making three pairs of earrings, and had been thinking of a pearl necklace, so I immediately knew what I wanted to do. I played with the idea for awhile, to make sure it would work out as I pictured it in my head, and as it turned out, it was going to work perfectly!

Being that it’s approximately 33.5 inches long, I had a hard time getting good pictures! The gorgeous green and bronze/brown freshwater pearls and soldered copper jump rings are from Magpie Gemstones, and I reshaped the jump rings into ovals to better suit my needs. The handmade clasp is strong, and the entire piece has been oxidized and hand buffed to bring out the copper’s natural beauty. This was such a fun piece to make, and I really love it!I just hope Ms. Marie loves it as much as I do!

Coming up, a necklace to match a cab I wrapped long ago, but didn’t feel it was worthy of purchase! A friend liked it, and requested it with a matching necklace, similar to Autumn Winds! Very excited about that! Of course, I will post it when it’s finished. I am also formulating and configuring a few ideas of some wire wrapped pendants that I will be offering on leather cord, satiny cord, or some such alternative stringing material.

In other news, we are making stained glass! Well, not exactly glass, but to the untrained eye, it could maybe pass for it! If you stand a few feet back.. no, a little father.. keep going.. about 100 yards.. there ya go! See?? looks just LIKE stained glass.. Pics to come. =^..^=

Bead Soup Blog Hop

Bead Soup Blog Hop

Well, today was the deadline to mail out our Soup ingredients, and I am very proud of myself for having had it packed and ready to go for two days! For those who don’t know, I am The Great Procrastinator. A “If it weren’t for the last minute, nothing would ever get done” kinda girl. Which usually causes me to panic and rush at the last minute, missing something, and regretting very much that I didn’t get the job done sooner, because when it’s done like that, I never feel that I did my best. So ANYway, I piled the kids into the car and drove on out to the little poke country post office and mailed my package. I didn’t fancify my packaging. In fact, it was very practical, and very padded! I just wanted the Soup to get there without any breakages. I can’t wait to hear if Gretchen likes it or not!! She makes some WAY groovy things-the very kind of things I LOVE-so I can’t wait to see what she makes with the Soup! You can see some things on her blog at Art Food Lodging. We have the very final reveal date: August 25th!! So stay tuned, as I will definitely be posting about it, and stoking the anticipation! =^..^=
